Seasons greetings,
First and foremost Merry Christmas and Happy
Holidays to one and all. I hope this post finds you in the company of
those you hold most dear and in good health and spirit.
As
some of you already know, I have recently become involved in the
development of a social media website for birders. I am working with
some exceptionally talented web designers in an effort build a site
where birders of all experience levels can come and enjoy a host of
features, share their experiences, learn more about birds and bird
identification, and ultimately record their sightings in collective
database. Our target launch date for a full-featured website is this
coming spring.
In the interim, we have launched a blog that
will provide a forum to begin communicating with the birding community
and to start building the important relationships that will ensure the
success of this endeavor. You can find our blog at: www.BirdFellow.com.
We went live last Friday and thus far we've posted four entries. We
hope to offer something for everyone who enjoys wild birds and the
adventures that accompany traveling to see them.
I chose today
to introduce our site in part because today's post is one that might
inspire you to let those whom you care about know how important they
are in your life. I am incredibly lucky to have two fabulous parents
who introduced me to nature and birds at a very young age. Their
teachings and ongoing support continue to provide the foundation for my
interest in learning about birds and sharing that knowledge with
others. Today's post is one of several essays I wrote as a Christmas
gift to my dad back in 2006. The collection was entitled: "The Gifts
You May Not Know You Gave Me." Surely someone out there gave you
similar "gifts." In the spirit of the season I would encourage you to
share your appreciation with them.
I invite you to read our posts at www.BirdFellow.com
and hope you find our blog enjoyable, educational, and perhaps
inspiring. Please take the time to share comments using the space
provided and let us know if there are topics of interest that you would
like to see us write about, or better yet send us a guest post. After
all, this site is intended to serve us all. In the coming days I will
be posting a three-part report about a trip that Steve Mlodinow and I
recently made up the Columbia Gorge.
Sincerely,
Dave Irons
