[birding] Possible Summer Tanager(?) in SW Corvallis

Hello folks,

Ray Drapek passed on a report of a bright red bird in Corvallis over the
weekend, which the observers identified as a Summer Tanager after
consulting bird books. Ray says they ruled out Purple Finch based on
size and bill; he was not sure if they had considered Red Crossbill. The
bird came to a feeder.

The folks who reported this bird to Ray are out of town this week so I
cannot give precise coordinates (and it did sound like a one-time visit
to the feeder). The neighborhood is just to the west of the Corvallis
Country Club in SW Corvallis.

A Summer Tanager in summer is not totally out of the realm of reason,
based on Oregon's spring vagrant records which show a smattering all the
way through a late date of June 27.
